Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Your body's own healing power - concentrated.

Platelet-Rich Plasma, or PRP, is a modern treatment that uses your own blood to help your body heal naturally. Your blood contains platelets - small cells that release powerful growth factors. These growth factors play a key role in repairing injuries, reducing inflammation, and stimulating new tissue growth.

How is PRP prepared and used?

  • Blood sample A small amount of your blood is taken, just like a normal blood test.
  • Separation The blood is placed in a special machine (centrifuge) that spins it very fast. This separates out the platelets from the red cells.
  • Concentration The platelets are collected into a rich, concentrated solution (PRP).
  • Injection This PRP is injected directly into the area needing treatment - for example a knee joint, tendon, or muscle. Because it comes from your own body, the risk of side effects or reactions is very low.

The whole process usually takes less than an hour and can be done in the clinic without the need for hospital admission.

What conditions can PRP help?

PRP is commonly used for:

  • Osteoarthritis (especially knees, hips, and shoulders) - reduces pain and stiffness.
  • Tendon injuries (such as tennis elbow, Achilles tendinopathy, rotator cuff problems).
  • Ligament injuries (such as sprains or partial tears).
  • Post-surgical healing to support faster recovery after orthopaedic procedures.

Benefits of PRP

  • Uses your own natural healing cells.
  • Minimally invasive (simple injection, no surgery).
  • Can reduce pain and improve movement.
  • Helps delay or even avoid more invasive treatments like surgery in some cases.

What to expect after treatment

You may feel some discomfort at the injection site for a few days. Improvement usually happens gradually over several weeks as the growth factors stimulate healing. Sometimes more than one session is needed for best results.

In short: PRP therapy is a safe, natural option that uses your own blood to boost healing and reduce pain. It is especially useful in treating joint arthritis, tendon and ligament injuries, and sports-related conditions.
