Dr Gabriel Pirjol completed his undergraduate studies in medicine at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania in 1989, before continuing with his training in various surgical disciplines at Grey’s Hospital in Pietermaritzburg. He qualified as an orthopaedic surgeon in 1999 from the University of Natal, and has a special interest in arthroscopic surgery, joint replacement surgery, sport medicine and degenerative disease.

Due to his interest in arthroscopic surgery, Dr Pirjol has attended courses and practical workshops organised locally and internationally for the last 20 years. These include events organised by prestigious organisations like the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the European Shoulder and Elbow Society, and the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy.

Dr Pirjol strives to explore all non-surgical treatments before considering surgery for his patients. The use of world-class equipment and minimally invasive arthroscopic shoulder knee, wrist and hip surgery ensures patients will recover with as little pain and discomfort as possible.

Dr Pirjol has worked as an orthopaedic surgeon in Durban at St Augustine’s, Westville and Gateway Hospitals, and also currently consults and operates from the Malven Medicross Clinic in Durban. His services include in-house ultrasound assessments and treatment for various conditions.
